Becoming a reader is a wonderful journey that can enrich your life. Here are 10 ways to get started:
Set Reading Goals: Determine how many books you want to read in a month or year to stay motivated.
Create a Reading List: Compile a list of books you're interested in, making it easier to choose your next read.
Design a Reading Space: Create a comfortable and inviting reading nook with good lighting. I like to add candles, a blanket and comfy pillows.
Prioritize Reading Time: Set aside dedicated time for reading, even if it's just a few minutes a day. Set a reminder or alarm in your phone for a reasonable time of day when you know you can likely make time to read a little.
Join a Book Club: Joining a book club can foster discussion and accountability. Ask on Facebook for reccomendations of a local or online book club.
Explore Different Genres: Don't limit yourself to one genre; explore a variety of books to discover your preferences. This was hard for me because I have always loved thriller and mystery reads. Over the years, I've learned to also enjoy personal development and love stories too.
Utilize Audiobooks: If you're short on time, listen to audiobooks during commutes or chores. I almost ALWAYS have 2-3 audiobooks going at a time. I use the Audible app.
Read Aloud: Share the joy of reading by reading aloud to others, especially children.
Track Your Progress: Use apps or journals to track your reading progress and take notes on what you've read. I love the Goodreads app!
Habit Stack: Make it easier for you to regularly pick up your current read by placing it by your nightstand or even your coffee pot for some morning reading.
Remember, the most important thing is to enjoy the journey of becoming a reader and savor the worlds that books can open up for you!
